How To Choose Your Hunting Rifle
By Razvan Jr
Amateur hunters must give this subject a lot of thought because the hunting efficiency depends greatly on the used rifle. With other words, if hunters don't own a suitable rifle for a particular type of hunting and to fit the hunting style, the results won't show up very soon and in some cases, not at all.
The very first issue a future rifle owner must think about is the cartridge. Let's take for example choosing a rifle for a deer hunt. Experts affirm that a 150 grain bullet is recommended for this type of hunting. To narrow the list, it is advisable to look for the most popular models, like the: .270 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, .308 Winchester and others as well. What future rifle owners must know is that standard cartridges are uniquely named so the name of the cartridge indicates the dynamic and physical characteristics of the cartridge. Hunters mustn't forget that in order to safely fire a cartridge, the rifle must accept that specific cartridge as it can't fire other cartridges.
Next order of business, future rifle owners must think about the action. Basically, there are four types: bolt action, lever action, pump action and self-loading ( auto-loading / semi-automatic ) action. Single shot rifles come in the following types: break-open, rolling block, falling block, trapdoor and others as well. Of all of the above mentioned, the bolt action retriever has the simplest design which allows rifles to be loaded with more than just one single cartridge. It is also easier to maintain and is more reliable in comparison with other action types.
Stock materials are in most cases made out of wood ( laminated or not ), fiberglass or plastic. The rifles that have a wood stock material are generally made out of walnut due to the fact that it is sturdy; feels good in the hunter's hands and it is also aesthetically pleasing. From all common stock materials, the laminated wood is the strongest and the most durable available but they are a little bit heavier than others. More and more popular among hunters are the synthetic materials basically because they are less expensive and less affected by moisture in comparison with the walnut stocks.
The barrel length varies from 18 to 26 inches but all lengths aren't available on all models. When choosing the length, hunters must think about what the length implies: the stiffness of the barrel, the length, the weight and the bullet's speed as it leaves the barrel's end. If the barrel is longer it will so to say " wiggle " when the cartridge is fired which will have a huge impact on the accuracy. Shorter barrels are a little bit more accurate but for a hunting rifle the difference is basically insignificant. The disadvantage of a lighter gun is that the recoil is more powerful in comparison with the recoil on heavier rifles.
Most of the metal parts of a bolt action rifle are made of either carbon steel or stainless steel. Carbon steel has one major advantage and one major disadvantage. The major advantage would be that it is less expensive while the major disadvantage would be that it has the tendency to rust ( although carbon steel parts are in most cases treated in order to reduce the rusting risks ). Stainless steel parts resist very good to rust but are a little bit more expensive.
As you can see, there are many aspects a hunter must take into consideration before choosing the most suitable hunting rifle. One last thought, it is very important to think about the game you are about to hunt before choosing the rifle and also don't exaggerate when buying, not too expensive but also not too cheap, somewhere in between.

Airsoft BB Guns - Choosing Between Spring and Electric Models
By Darin Sewell
Airsoft BB guns are rapidly increasing in popularity around the world. Many clubs have been formed to bring enthusiasts together to enjoy their weapons. Activities in these clubs range from simple target shooting to all out urban combat games. Having the right gun for the activities you wish to participate in will maximize your airsoft experience.
Electric vs Spring airsoft guns
Electric Air guns: Electric airsoft BB guns are by far the most popular. this is due to the fact that ,many models operate with semi automatic and fully automatic capabilities. This not only adds to the realism but also makes these guns extremely fun to shoot.
Electric guns are available in a wide variety of price and performance ranges. High end models are constructed from metal and use metal gears to deliver high velocity and rapid rates of fire. While the lower end plastic models deliver lower performance but just as much fun.
The only limit an electric air gun has is the battery life, so always have spare batteries on hand if you want a full days fun!
Spring Guns: Spring guns have a wide range of models. These guns range from cheap $4 dollar pistols to high end very powerful sniper rifles that cost hundreds of dollars. Spring guns perform better then other models in cold weather and the high end models are extremely powerful and accurate. There only drawback is that they are single shot only. These guns are the best for target shooting competitions.
Gas Powered Guns: Gas Powered Airsoft Guns use compressed carbon dioxide, Freon or Green Gas as a propellant. The propellant gas is held in a tank or reservoir on the gun. Gas guns us a "Blow back" feature to chamber the next round as realistically as an actual gun. Because they have more moving parts and use gas as a propellant, this type of airsoft gun is more expensive to operate. They are preferred by serious Airsoft Gun Collectors.
Although there is only three main categories each type of gun has its own sub category, spring guns for example have sniper rifles and electric guns have numerous options like blow back models and hybrid guns. By shopping around and comparing the various models you can find exactly what you need!

The Art of Being An Airsoft Sniper Part I
By PJ Ace
As the sport of Airsoft continues its surge in worldwide popularity, the number of Airsoft teams and clubs continue to climb as well. These dedicated groups gather as weekend warriors at outdoor venues to participate in sophisticated war games. Dressed in military like fatigues, and armed with replica Airsoft guns, these teams engage in simulated military battles commonly referred to as the Mil-Sim (military simulation).
Of all the role players one can choose to be in these weekend battles, perhaps the most popular of all is the “Sniper”. The Airsoft Sniper is often referred to as the Lone Wolf or Rouge of Airsoft. This is the gamer that wants to place himself in the perfect hidden location in order to eliminate the opposing players in a deadly ambush. Although a popular identity among Airsoft warriors, few players have mastered the skill of becoming a feared and effective “Super Sniper”.
The first step in becoming a successful Super Sniper begins with having the right equipment! This begins by choosing the Sniper’s most important accessory-the sniper rifle. The goal of the Sniper is to be able to shoot the enemy from long distances, therefore his rifle does not need to be fully automatic or even semi-automatic. A well built spring–action rifle is usually the choice. The spring sniper rifle must be one of the more powerful models in order to shoot from long distances with great accuracy. It is also important to keep in mind that the most powerful weapon the Sniper has is his stealth or the ability to stay hidden. The spring action sniper rifles are much quieter than the electric automatic rifles.
One of the most recommended spring sniper rifles is the Super 9 Bolt Action Airsoft sniper rifle. This great Airsoft gun is made by UHC, which is widely recognized as one of the premier manufacturers of spring guns.
Perhaps the next most important piece of equipment for the secretive Super Sniper is his riflescope. The ability to see long distances with accuracy is critical to his success. Often the original equipment scope does not fulfill this requirement and an upgrade is needed. A minimum 4x32 power scope is the desired measure.
The successful Sniper has also mastered the art of military camouflage. Without proper clothing the Sniper is doomed to failure. It is essential for him to be undetected by the opposing teams. Investing in a “ghillie” or camouflage suit is critical to maximum concealment from enemy patrols and other snipers. This suit is made from a central binding layer and loose strips of material designed to break up the shape of the human body. Super Snipers typically customize their suits by adding plant-matter or rolling in the dirt or mud in order to deaden color contrasts. With the potential for wearing this suit a long time during battles, comfort is a premium.
One of the great mistakes of the amateur sniper is running out of ammunition. As simple as this may seem, this is a common mishap due to the underestimated length of many Airsoft skirmishes. Many a sniper meets his demise as he emerges prematurely from his secret hideout at the most inopportune time in order to retrieve more pellets. You will always find the wise Super Sniper well stocked with plenty of ammo!
Understanding the role and choosing the right equipment will help the Airsoft warrior to be well on his way to becoming a Super Sniper.

Airsoft Rifles - The Ultimate Big Kids Toy
By Niall Roche
None of us really want to grow up - we're forced to do that by society. Ask any man, young or old, if he'd rather go back to his childhood days and get back to playing toy soldiers with his friends and he'll heartily agree. There's a part of us that always wants to stay young so that we can enjoy the things of childhood. Airsoft guns are the ideal gift or hobby for any kid that never really grew up.
There's a certain something about airsoft rifles that their owners simply can't explain. The dream of owning your own M16, G36 or AK47 is something that some people will never understand. They associate the desire to own a weapon of any kind with a desire to commit violent acts - this couldn't be further from the truth. However, for the many thousands of airsoft owners all over the world airsoft makes perfect sense.
The surprising thing about most airsoft rifles is that they're actually quite heavy and very well built. They're designed to be an almost exact copy of the original firearm in every possible way - which in turn gives you an idea of what it would be like to handle the real thing. Most current airsoft rifles fire a 6mm bb but there are some newer variants now supporting an 8mm bb - although these are still quite rare. These bbs are available in light, medium and heavyweight grades to suit all firing and plinking styles. You can also get paintball and luminous bbs if you really want to test your rifle out.
There are several basic types of airsoft gun available. They are as follows:
Spring Powered
These are normally some of the most powerful airsoft rifles available often sporting speeds of up to 300 feet per second. The major flaw with this type of rifle is that you need to arm or cock it before each shot. This means they're a single shot rifle even though they're a replica of a fully automatic assault rifle.
Gas Powered
These are the next step up from spring powered guns. Gas airsoft guns are also highly portable and reasonably powerful. Available in fully automatic modes they can deplete the gas "charge" stored in the gun very quickly. This can involve carrying around replacement tins of compressed gas for the rifle or possibly even carrying a recharging pump around with you.
Electric Airsoft
These are also known as AER (Automatic Electric Rifles)and are the most popular type of airsoft rifle because for many reasons. For example they're highly portable, battery powered, powerful, accurate and reliable. Many AER models can give 2 - 3 years of flawless operation with the most basic of maintenance but tend to be the most expensive type of airsoft gun available.
So why not indulge that kids passion of years ago and buy yourself an airsoft rifle - you won't be sorry.
